Where There Is Half an Hour of Sunshine

We are still in lockdown here in the UK, This lockdown seems to be so much more difficult than the previous two. Perhaps it is because we have been under some kind of restriction for a year now. Perhaps it is because the British weather is doing its worst. It’s cold, windy, rainy, dank and miserable. I have been taking every opportunity to collect some new shots for my A Good Half Mile project whoever .

I have learned over the last few weeks of working on this project that sometimes I go out and see absolutely nothing. Strangely though, for every trip out where I see very little, there is a trip where my neighbours decide to demonstrate their eccentricities, and I come back with half a dozen interesting shots.

The local barbers shop is closed of course, but as I wandered by I noticed the barber’s pole outside. I can’t understand why I haven’t noticed it before, I must have walked past it dozens of times. As an aside, I am now in desperate need of a haircut. I currently resemble an animated scarecrow.

The local chemist has a shed. Every year they use it to distribute the flu jab. It’s quiet this year as everyone is waiting patiently for their COVID vaccine. It has made me wonder what else I can find painted on the side of sheds. There’s a project in there somewhere I’m sure.

Just around the corner I found this doll attached to a garden fence. I have no idea if I should be scared or not…

Finally, on the way home, I spotted a new recruit to the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme, and a car that strongly reminded me of Mr Weasley’s wheels in Harry Potter.

I am feeling rather stupid for not realising what a rich seam of photographic opportunity there is literally on my doorstep. I hope that as lockdown lifts, I don’t forget this lesson.
