Started Early, Took My Camera

… with apologies to Emily Dickinson and Kate Atkinson.

Well, it has been a while hasn’t it? I do apologise. I have been out shooting as normal but blogging time seems to have been at a minimum recently.

The Delightful Mr F and I decided we needed some sea air to blow away the cobwebs, and generally give us a lift. So, this morning at 04:30, we got up, grabbed our camera gear and headed for the coast. It seems slightly mad now, but at least there wasn’t much traffic. We had decided that we would visit Worthing, not too far from us, but a place neither of us had visited before.

I had no photographic plans, other than to photograph what caught my eye. I have been on a couple of photography workshops recently, one brilliant, the other utterly disappointing. The latter, rather discouraged me, and this trip was all about getting my photographic mojo back. I packed my Fuji X100F to keep it simple and avoid lens choice paralysis. It’s a thing you know, it really is. That horrible feeling you get when you look at a scene and you can’t decide which lens to shoot it on. Easily cured with a fixed lens camera.

The first thing that struck me about Worthing was the rather beautiful shelters they have along the front. Have you seen a more photogenic shelter? The lone person sat looking at the sea was rather nice. When I got closer, he looked a lot like Mr Robot.

Further along the beach there was a very brave man feeding the seagulls. I hope he was OK, we didn’t see him again, and I am worried that later today they may find the body of a well meaning visitor who has been pecked to death.

I really liked these chairs, they look as though they should be on someone’s patio. I wonder who was sat in them, looking at the sea together?

There was a parade today, I am not sure why, but perhaps you don’t really need a reason?

So, did I get my photographic drive back? I certainly did. Think it’s good for me to out shooting with no other purpose than to enjoy myself and create work that I like. When was the last time you went out to shoot for the sheer joy of it?
